Explore the City of Sugar Hill- Downtown Tour 2021

The city of Sugar Hill is located in northern Gwinnett county and lies between the city of Buford and Cumming, off State Route 20 between GA 400 and I-85. Sugar Hill legendarily got its sweet name when a train going from Buford to Cumming tipped over dumping a huge shipment of sugar. Thus the moniker "Sugar Hill."

Sugar Hill is the fourth largest city in Gwinnett county with an estimated population of about 25,000, and is a suburb of Atlanta. The schools serving Sugar Hill include Sugar Hill Elementary, Lanier Middle and Lanier High School, all of which are rated A by Niche.com.

The city of Sugar Hill has done a lot to revitalize the town center. Downtown is anchored by the court house and municipal building including a post office and all the utilities for Sugar Hill. If you want to do business with Sugar Hill or just need to drop off a water bill payment, this is your place. There is ample parking on the street and in the lot adjacent.

Next to the courthouse is The Bowl. This is Sugar Hills amphitheater, ice skating rink and splash park. During the spring to fall months the city (normally) puts on a concert series. It is a great venue (I saw Joan Jett) because you can see the action from anywhere, vendors from local restaurants sell food and drink, picnics are allowed, parking is ample and it is just an all out good time! In fact concerts are slowly making their way back and the Roots and Boots concert is coming to The Bowl October 1. You can get tickets for about $45 HERE.

When the temperatures get hot the Splash park also opens up. It is a great spot to bring the kids, get wet and have some fun. Winter at the Sugar Hill Bowl is also a great time. The ice skating rink opens up and holiday cheer abounds.

The Eagle Theatre is another crowning jewel of downtown Sugar Hill. Here you can enjoy community theatre in a lovely environment for about $20 a ticket. They also do $2 Tuesdays where they screen a new movie every month and you can go see it at 10:30 or 6:30.

There are some yummy places to grab a bite downtown as well including Central City Tavern. They describe themselves as an upscale sports tavern. Burgers, dogs, sandwiches and salads are on the menu and their deck and dining room overlook the pond and amphitheater. Rushing Trading Company is a great place to grab a gourmet coffee, craft cocktail, or brunch. A new restaurant is Coming Soon called Cantina Loca and will serve Tex-Mex and is part of the Broadstone complex.

The Broadstone at Sugar Hill is a new upscale apartment complex in downtown featuring 1-3 bedroom apartments starting at $1300. The complex has a fitness center, saltwater pools, hang out areas and walkability in downtown Sugar Hill.

The Suite Spot is just another cool addition to the downtown area. It is a business incubator that you can rent office space starting at $75. They also feature meeting spaces and conference rooms.

Also located in downtown Sugar Hill is the historic Sugar Hill Cemetery. The city of Sugar Hill now owns and maintains the cemetery that pre-dates the city itself and was once part of the city's first Baptist church.

Homes in Sugar Hill average about $375k which is typical of the area. Homes surrounding the downtown area tend to be older and smaller than many of the neighborhoods outside the immediate downtown area. To see homes in Sugar Hill go HERE. To see the market report for Sugar Hill go HERE.
