Sawnee Mountain Preserve is now open! Operating Monday through Saturday from 8:30 to 5:00. Get outside and take a hike! This is one of the most beautiful places in the state and for those of us who are lucky enough to live in Cumming, it is right in our own back yard! If you are in Atlanta, Sawnee Mountain is well worth the less than one hour drive!
You can choose to do an easy stroll or a challenging hike up to the Indian Seats and the magnificent view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. All the trails are well marked and have tidbits of history on the way up the mountain. You will also see abandoned gold mines!
When you are planning your trip, make sure to bring water (or a water container). There are drinking fountains located at the visitor's center. Make sure to check out the interactive visitor's center for lots of cool history and information. Picnic areas are available near the visitors center. There are also rentable pavilions and an amphitheater for a small fee, by reservation, for large groups.
Sawnee Mountain also offers tons of other programs including canoe and kayak lessons, summer camps, climbing and home school programs. For more information got to their website here.
IMPORTANT: NO DOGS ALLOWED
I love to hike with my dog, but this is one park that Fido can't go 😩
